Man faces another DWI charge

A 31-year-old man was stopped by police on July 25 in Auburn, New York, after authorities say they saw his car being driven erratically. The man was stopped on North Street and was asked to perform field sobriety tests. He refused to take a breath test after being sent to a state police station.

New York man accused of fleeing police to avoid a DWI charge

A 40-year-old man is said to have accelerated to speeds as high as 80 mph to evade police and avoid a drunk driving citation during the early morning hours of July 15. The incident took place in Suffolk County at approximately 2:32 a.m. according to the East Hampton Town Police Department. The man has been charged with a third-degree misdemeanor count of fleeing a police officer and driving while intoxicated. Media reports indicate that he was subsequently released on his own recognizance.

NHTSA study suggests that marijuana impairment has risen sharply

Research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that drivers under the influence of marijuana are becoming increasingly common on the roads of New York and other U.S. states. The road safety agency's latest National Roadside Study suggests that the number of motorists under the influence of THC, which is the chemical component of marijuana that gives the drug its intoxicating effects, has risen by 50 percent within the space of just seven years.

DWI charges follow alcohol-related crash

A 21-year-old driver is facing misdemeanor DWI charges following an accident on July 4. According to New York State Police, the man and his 23-year-old female passenger both suffered injuries in the incident. The man was taken into police custody following the crash. Officials stated that additional charges are likely to be filed.

Derek Fisher charged with DUI

New York pro basketball fans are most likely familiar with former Knicks head coach Derek Fisher. Also a former NBA player, Fisher was taken into custody in June 2016 on the suspicion of driving under the influence after he was in a one-car accident in Los Angeles. County court records have now revealed that Fisher has been handed formal DUI charges for that incident.

Holiday weekend means increased DWI enforcement

Drivers throughout New York should be on the lookout for increased DWI enforcement over the July 4 weekend. The Clinton County STOP DWI enforcement program is just one part of a statewide effort to keep drunk or impaired driving to a minimum during the holiday. During the 2015 Fourth of July holiday period, there were 92 people killed in accidents involving a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration of .15 percent or higher.

Plea deal in DUI case will keep former NFL legend out of jail

Football fans in New York as well as across the country may want to know more about former New York Giant Lawrence Taylor's guilty plea in connection with a drunk driving case in Florida. On June 19, news sources reported that the plea deal will allow Taylor to avoid jail time for DUI. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in September 2016 near Palm Beach Gardens.

Police in New York charge wrong-way driver with DWI

Police have charged a 26-year-old man with driving while impaired and driving while intoxicated after he allegedly drove in the wrong direction in Richmond County during the early morning hours of June 11. The New Jersey resident is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges on Aug. 11. His vehicle was stopped by Port Authority Police on the West Shore Expressway in Staten Island near the newly opened Goethals Bridge at approximately 4:00 a.m.
