In New York, a man is facing 19 charges following an alleged drunk driving incident that began in Buffalo and ended in Kenmore on Sept. 29. According to reports, the man crashed his pickup truck into three homes on Kenmore Avenue during a police chase that started on Niagara Falls Boulevard. He was tased by police while attempting to flee the scene on foot following the final collision.

The New York State STOP-DWI Association promotes enforcement actions like this to reduce accidents caused by drunk drivers.

Man pleads guilty in vehicular homicide case

A New York real estate developer has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges related to a car accident in September 2015 that resulted in the death of one person. The driver had a blood alcohol level of .18 percent several hours after the accident. He allegedly left the scene of the accident and left his passenger on the side of the road near the place where the crash occurred.

Man faces another DWI charge

A 31-year-old man was stopped by police on July 25 in Auburn, New York, after authorities say they saw his car being driven erratically. The man was stopped on North Street and was asked to perform field sobriety tests. He refused to take a breath test after being sent to a state police station.

New York man accused of fleeing police to avoid a DWI charge

A 40-year-old man is said to have accelerated to speeds as high as 80 mph to evade police and avoid a drunk driving citation during the early morning hours of July 15. The incident took place in Suffolk County at approximately 2:32 a.m. according to the East Hampton Town Police Department. The man has been charged with a third-degree misdemeanor count of fleeing a police officer and driving while intoxicated. Media reports indicate that he was subsequently released on his own recognizance.

NHTSA study suggests that marijuana impairment has risen sharply

Research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that drivers under the influence of marijuana are becoming increasingly common on the roads of New York and other U.S. states. The road safety agency's latest National Roadside Study suggests that the number of motorists under the influence of THC, which is the chemical component of marijuana that gives the drug its intoxicating effects, has risen by 50 percent within the space of just seven years.

DWI charges follow alcohol-related crash

A 21-year-old driver is facing misdemeanor DWI charges following an accident on July 4. According to New York State Police, the man and his 23-year-old female passenger both suffered injuries in the incident. The man was taken into police custody following the crash. Officials stated that additional charges are likely to be filed.
