New York man faces DWI charges after causing two accidents

A 37-year-old New York man is facing drunk driving charges after causing two accidents on Nov. 15. The man fled the scene of both accidents, but Suffolk County police tracked him down after receiving a call from two witnesses who had followed his SUV. The accidents took place in the town of Brentwood.

New York boater indicted for DWI-related manslaughter, 2 killed

The driver of a boat involved in a fatal crash with a barge on the Hudson River now faces an 18-count indictment including two counts each of vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. The July 26 boating accident killed a bride-to-be and her future groom's best man, and injured 4 others including the boat driver and the groom-to-be.

Updates to Leandra's Law could affect those convicted of DWI

New York drivers may be interested in changes to Leandra's Law, a statute requiring in-car breath testing systems for those convicted of driving while intoxicated. The changes will increase penalties and give prosecutors new tools against those they claim are circumventing the law.

Bus driver charged with DWI

A New York bus driver was taken into custody on charges of drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident on Oct. 26. Police allege that the 49-year-old bus driver, while driving his own vehicle, ran into another vehicle. After the accident, the two drivers got out of their vehicles to exchange insurance information. However, the bus driver allegedly drove away without exchanging information. Police say that the bus driver did not have auto insurance.

New York truck driver found driving while intoxicated

Authorities in upstate New York took a tractor-trailer driver into custody after they allegedly found that he had been driving with a blood-alcohol level that was almost five times higher than the legal limit. Police found him after they responded to reports of an intoxicated truck driver who was in a shopping plaza located in Saratoga County, which is about 20 miles north of Albany.

Brooklyn Nets coach suspended for 2 games after DWI plea

New York basketball fans had to do without Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd for two games at the start of the season. He was suspended by the NBA after pleading guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated. Kidd would miss the first two games opening basketball's regular season, against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland and against the Miami Heat at home. Analysts expected the suspension as well as its length because other players and coaches had been given the same penalty after convictions or pleas on drunk driving charges.

Car crash leads to DUI charges.

A New york woman is being charged with aggravated drunk driving after a car crash that left the woman trapped in her own car. The 35-year-old woman was injured but refused further medical attention after being evaluated at the scene of the accident. A police officer discovered the accident and alerted the local fire department to help assist the woman out of the car.

New York fans hear actress Bynes unfit for drunk driving trial

Troubled actress Amanda Bynes may have been in a psychiatric ward since July 2013, but in late September, her trial proceeded without her. She was scheduled to appear in court on charges of driving while intoxicated in April 2012, but a lawyer for the former child star told the judge that she was mentally unfit to stand trial on the criminal counts. She was under long-term psychiatric treatment under a conservatorship at the time of the hearing.

Lindsey Lohan's mother charged with DWI

Actress Lindsey Lohan's 50-year-old mother, Dina Lohan, has been arrested for DWI in New York after blood alcohol testing allegedly showed hers to be over twice the .08 percent legal limit. Media sources indicate that Lohan claimed to have been injured during the course of her arrest, but recanted this allegation after emergency personnel are said to have evaluated her and found no such injuries. She has been scheduled for a Sept. 24 appearance at the Nassau County 1st District Court.

Serious injuries caused by tractor-trailer accident

New York state police reported that a woman from Wayne was allegedly hit by a truck driver in late August 2013. The 39-year-old woman was driving a Subaru east on Interstate 84 when a big-rig truck driving in the opposite direction apparently lost control and swerved sharply. The truck then came across the median and hit the woman's vehicle directly.
