Man faces felony DUI under New York's Leandra's Law

A 53-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with felony DUI after allegedly causing a three-car accident. The charge is a result of Leandra's Law, a piece of New York legislation which makes first-offense DUI an automatic felony when a driver is operating a vehicle with a juvenile 15 years or younger as a passenger.

Suspected drunk driver pleads guilty to vehicular manslaughter

A 26-year-old Poughkeepsie man was in court on Dec. 16 to plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter charges stemming from a head-on collision with a motorcyclist in May, according to the Ulster County District Attorney's Office. A 41-year-old Newburgh man was killed in the crash. Sentencing will take place in February.

New York man pleads not guilty to DWI, more charges possible

A 61-year-old man appeared in West Seneca Town Court on Dec. 17 and pleaded not guilty to two DWI charges stemming from a two-car crash in which the driver of the other vehicle was killed. An investigation into the incident was ongoing at the time of the report, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

New York driver sentenced to 6 years in prison

In Long Island in May 2012, a 51-year-old man allegedly hit a 76-year-old woman and her 78-year-old husband with his car. The Merrick couple was walking across the road while holding hands. They were both injured, and the driver was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated. Reports say that his blood-alcohol content at the time of the pedestrian accident was .20 percent, which is more than twice the state's legal limit.

New York crash ends in flames, death

Charges are pending for a 23-year-old allegedly drunk driver who caused a fatal crash Nov. 30 in Queens. The fiery car accident occurred around 1 a.m. after a 2006 black Ford sedan slammed into a 2009 Saturn at the corner of 98th Street and 159th Avenue in Howard Beach, according to authorities. After the crash, the Ford proceeded to hit a parked car and careen through a brick partition in front of a house, exploding into flames.
