NSDUH data indicates that fewer Americans are driving drunk

Law enforcement agencies in New York and around the country have been clamping down on drunk driving, and these efforts combined with persuasive public awareness campaigns appear to be bearing fruit, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The NSDUH, which is released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, provides federal agencies with data concerning drug use and alcohol and tobacco consumption in the United States.

East Hampton man charged with felony DWI

A 51-year-old man in New York was charged for felony driving while intoxicated on Dec. 18. The man was stopped while he was driving in East Hampton at around 1:14 a.m. According to reports, the man has one prior conviction for drunk driving from 2014, and his driver's license is still suspended from that incident.

New York State Police announce holiday season DWI crackdown

New York motorists may wish to abstain from drinking during the holiday season if they hope to avoid getting into trouble with the law. The New York State Police kicked off its 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign on Dec. 16, and troopers will remain on high alert until the safety effort draws to a close on Jan. 1, 2017. In addition to drunk drivers, troopers will be clamping down on reckless behavior such as speeding and seat belt violations.

Football star charged with drunk driving after crash

Football fans in New York and around the country may be familiar with Troy Hill. The promising 25-year-old defensive back had earned a regular place with the Los Angeles Rams after being claimed off waivers in December 2015, but he was unceremoniously released by the team on Nov. 22 just three days after an alleged drunk driving accident in California. Hill's career appeared to be blossoming with the Rams after brief and unsuccessful stints in Cincinnati and New England.
