Bassist of popular rock band faces charges

New York music fans may have heard that the bassist of the popular rock band, 3 Doors Down, is facing charges in Mississippi for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Prior to being detained for this recent charge, which was levied on Feb. 18, he was facing charges of vehicular homicide in Tennessee.

This latest incident, which came to police attention after someone called authorities about an allegedly impaired driver, is the second DUI for the bassist since 2012. According to police, they found the man in his car and slumped over the steering wheel. At the time of reporting, authorities were not able to determine what substance the man was affected by; reports only state that samples were sent to the crime lab for testing. The bassist previously faced several charges in Nashville, including driving impaired in April 2013. That incident resulted in a fatal accident. According to police, he admitted he had been drinking and taking prescription drugs prior to the accident.

Reports say that in that accident, he was driving while impaired and driving above the speed limit when he clipped the back of a pickup, truck resulting in the death of the 47-year-old driver. A conviction on these charges may include severe penalties, including the revocation of a person's license and the fines. In many states, penalties for drunken driving accidents may be aggravated by the death of another motorist or the existence of previous convictions.

Individuals in New York who are facing charges that are similar to those in this case may choose to work with a criminal defense lawyer. A lawyer may be able to build a defense by questioning the evidence supporting the charges against a client.
